The Ravens, much like the other 31 teams in the NFL, are romantics at heart. If you love football the way these scouts and GMs love it, that fact is almost a foregone conclusion. Sometimes, that love can betray you. We’ve seen it time and time again on draft day and throughout the trials and tribulations of NFL players careers.
But sometimes, it can be a match made in heaven!
I believe that’s what we have here with the Ravens and Nate Wiggins.
It’s been one preseason game against non-starters, and it ended with the young man hurting his shoulder, but I’ve seen what I’ve needed to. That skillset is tough to come by and there’s a clear reason he flashes brilliantly on film.
You can’t teach speed.
You can’t teach confidence.
And it’s not like the Ravens have had a history of poor draft picks when it comes to their premier cornerbacks. Chris McAlister, Jimmy Smith, and Marlon Humphrey are just a few studs Baltimore has brought in to solidify one of the more important positions in the NFL.
Nate Wiggins looks to be just another in a long line of greats. Of course, that narrative can be exactly what many are spinning it as. A case of counting your chickens before they hatch. Fan bases have a tendency of doing just that. But if you’re a Ravens fan and are fighting the urge to get excited from what clearly amounts to a quarter and some change of a live scrimmage, I have some advice for you.
Don’t fight it.
Embrace the hype.
If the kid looks special, there’s probably a pretty simple reason why that’s the case.
